The show season is now over for 2009, I have been fortunate to attend many events throughout the spring and summer, as well as providing transport for weddings and despite the lack of sunshine I think we only got very wet once!!
I have now had chance to up date some of the photographs from this season, It is always difficult to take photographs at events were we are taking part and I am very grateful to Kevin Wright (kjwright@gotadsl.co.uk) for the photographs he has sent to me. (Leicester County, The Royal and many of the ploughing photographs from 2008).
These photos by no means cover all the events we have attended, my new experience this year was to take part in the recently shown BBC series 'Land Girls' If you watched the programme we were in the last episode, taking Bea to her wedding!
There have been many articles in the press reporting the decline of Heavy Horses, with the Suffolk Punch being most at risk. The future of the Shire Horse is not as precarious, but I always try to attend events to promote this magnificent breed.
My horses are trained in many different gears and as such I have attend demonstrations in many guises. At Whitacre and Shustoke country fair 2008 I demonstrated putting a pair of horses to a carriage then drove them around the main arena, on the photo page are some photos of me at the same venue in 2006 demonstrating a tandem. At Holcot Steam Rally the horses are shown to be employed in the traditional tasks of ploughing or demonstrating the use of other antique horse drawn farming machinery.
This is just a short description of the many different jobs that we can do and there are lots of photographs on the Demonstration & Showing Photos page.
If you have an event coming up that you would like to book my Shire Horses to give you a unique demonstration, tailor made to your requirements please give me a call or send me an email, I would love to talk to you.
Showing and Demonstrations
I enjoy being in the show ring driving my horses either single, pairs and tandem or as a team of three.
